Bill - if you disconnect the speedometer cable you are loosing both the speedometer and the odometer.

As the Savage is not equipped with a tach - that means a rider would be riding with on traffic around them for a visual check on their speed.

I am pretty doubtful that disconneting the speedometer cable to prevent the odometer from accumulating mileage is happenning -

Reality is as Scorpion suggests - bikes get ridden a lot a first but with time less and less - and for the majority of bikes I find for sale - the seller bought the bike for a lark and now is tired - and we stand to capitalize hugely on thier initial indulgence.

The used bikes you are seeing likely are showing true mileage.

My 1989 has just shy of 20,000 kms now - or only 12,000 miles in 13 year!

Keep the speedometer connected and the eyes down occassionally
